HYDERABAD: The city’s new flyover from LB Nagar to Chintalkunta checkpost, which is set to ease traffic snarls and provide relief from long hours of waiting period for commuters heading to Vijayawada, is being inaugurated on Friday.

The GHMC is promising that the flyover would ensure a free flow of traffic movement from Hayathnagar, Choutuppal and Vijayawada Highway. “The new flyover, apart from saving travel time and fuel, will also reduce air pollution as the waiting period of vehicles at Chintalkunta will come down considerably. Commuters travelling in Dilshuknagar will also breathe easy,” said S Srinivas Reddy, zonal commissioner, LB Nagar.

The Rs 42 crore flyover, extending to a length of 780 metres, was constructed as part of Strategic Road Development Plan. “The LB Nagar junction will be totally devoid of traffic mess once the right hand side flyover, which is under construction, and the underpass on the Ring Road are completed,” a GHMC official said. As per records, the peak hour passenger car unit (PCU) at the junction in 2015 was 14,153 and the estimated PCU by 2034 is 21,990.

Senior engineers said the GHMC used a very modern technology to raise the flyover. “It is considered to be one of the best technologies across the country,” an official said. Home minister Mahmood Ali, minister Ch Malla Reddy and mayor Bonthu Rammohan will take part in the inauguration.
