Dharwad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a new app c-Vigil to monitor violations of the model code of conduct (MCC) and other malpractices during elections to the Lok Sabha. People can download this app and pass on information about any violation or malpractice. It will be functional once the MCC comes into force.
Dharwad deputy commissioner Deepa said complaints registered with this app will be attended to within 100 minutes and special teams have been formed to take up the complaints. Senders can upload photographs of election malpractice or breach of MCC, she said.

Voters’ slip not a valid document

The ECI has also said that voter slips issued by political parties cannot be used as a valid document to prove identity of voters. Deepa said the ECI has banned using voters' slip as an alternative document for voting.

There were complaints from the public that some parties which were distributing voters' slips have photographs of candidates or the party symbol which may influence the voter. The voter has to carry EPIC or any one of the 11 alternative documents to cast his/her vote.

The administration’s focus is on increasing voting percentage and lot of activities under SWEEP have been taken up.
