Health Minister Eatala promises to address their Minister

Junior doctors of Gandhi and Niloufer hospitals on Thursday suspended their strike till March 11 following assurances from the Health Minister Eatala Rajender to address their demands.

“With Health Minister assuring to fulfil our demands we have temporarily withheld the strike. If the demands are not met within the stipulated time, we will resume the strike,” Telangana Junior Doctors Joint Action Committee said.

The junior doctors demanded the government to provide security to PGs and install surveillance cameras and buzzer alarm on the hospital premises for their safety.

They had declared an indefinite strike after Dr Karthik, a junior doctor at the paediatric department was assaulted by the grandmother of a two-month-old boy who died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday.

They had boycotted elective duties on Tuesday and Wednesday and on Thursday they refused emergency services at Gandhi and Niloufer hospitals, said G Sanjay, president, Telangana Junior Doctors Association - Gandhi Unit.

Earlier in the day, they took out a peace rally on the hospital premises and demanded the Health Minister to visit the hospital for a reality check. The doctors also condemned the attack by the police when they took out the rally.
