Industries in Naroda Industries Association will use recycled sewage water about 18 months from now, as state government cleared a proposal to give land local industries for construction of the sewage treatment plant. The upcoming plant will cater to about 20 per cent of its current water requirement, said sources.
Gujarat Industries Development Corporation (GIDC) recently cleared a proposal to tranfer 5,000 square metre of land in Naroda to set up the plant, said Shailesh Patwari, director of Naroda Utility Services, which will manage the treatment plant. "We have been waiting for about 18 months for the land. We will soon get possession of the land," said Patwari.
The plant will use Israeli technology and the treated water will be at least at par with potable water. Naroda Utility Services will invest Rs 7 crore for the plant, of which about Rs 2 crore will be for the land and Rs 5 crore for construction. The plant will be able to treat close to 20 lakh litres of sewage water discharged by 1,300 industries and 900 residential flats. Of these, industries will get about 18 lakh litres of treated water, which will be used by industries for different process and for gardening. This will be close to 20 per cent of the daily requirement of about 90 lakh litres of water.
The treated water will cost Rs 24 per litre against Rs 20 per litre now. "It is a little expensive but will be saving lots of water, which is a precious commodity," claimed Patwari. GIDC MD D Thara said that GIDC has given land for one treatment plant and one more proposal is in final stages.
