NOIDA : The Noida Authority on Thursday said it would develop 241 vending zones across the city in a bid to remov all illegal street vendors who clog roads across the city.
From March 5, the authority will issue licences to these vendors to operate from designated locations.
Officer-on-special-duty (OSD) of Noida Authority Rajesh Kumar Singh said the state government had already issued guidelines to street vendors, based on which the licences would be issued.
“Noida Authority formed a committee that approved 241 vending zones. In the first phase, 1,100 licences will be given to vendors from March 5,” he said.
The Authority had received around applications for 8,200 vendor licences in a drive that was conducted from October 4 to November 30, 2018. The licences will be issued for both stationary and mobile vendors. It will specify the vending zones, days, and timings.
It will come with a set of terms, conditions and restrictions. The vending licences, according to sources, will be issued at a nominal fee. The vending zones will be set up in sectors 58, 62, 63, 18, 27 phase 1, phase 2, NSEZ and other commercial and industrial areas. The vendors will be required to submit undertakings that they would carry out the business themselves or through a family member. Also, the vendor cannot have any other means of livelihood.
They cannot transfer or rent the vending certificate or the place specified to any other person.
In Noida, hundreds of vendors sell goods, food items and merchandise on streets, footpaths and pavements.
Deprived of civic amenities, the vendors set up temporary unauthorized structures that lead to traffic congestion at different locations.
The Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 gives a clear set of guidelines on the subject.
These vendors shall also adhere to the guidelines and maintain cleanliness and public hygiene at the designated spot and adjoining areas. Officials said that the Authority will crackdown on illegal vendors after the zones are developed and the licences are issued.
Noida Authority’s Committee on vender zone will be meeting on Tuesday for further talks on the same.
