The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission on Thursday once again reiterated before the Madras High Court that it shall release by May 31 the notification for conduct of local body elections in the State.
The submission was made during the hearing of a contempt of court petition filed against top officials of the commission.
Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and M. Sundar recorded the submission made and adjourned further hearing on the contempt of court petition to June 6. The judges were told that the process of reserving seats for women and Scheduled Castes as well as Scheduled Tribes was over and verification of electoral rolls was on at present. Immediately after the verification, the commission would notify the elections.
The commission had already made the submission before the High Court as well as the Supreme Court during the recent hearing of a connected case.
