Traffic police says it will look into the suggestion

In the absence of a median on certain stretches of Kamarajar Salai, motorists want barricades to be placed there to combat lane indiscipline. The stretch between Queen’s Mary College and Chepauk where lane discipline is a case in point.

Some motorists coming from George Town and proceeding towards Foreshore Estate and vice versa jump lanes, posing a threat to the safety of those motorists coming in the opposite lane.

Those following the rules are startled and swerve left to avoid collision.

“Driving on this stretch is sometimes dangerous. Motorists come at a fast clip, says M. Rajesh, adding, “barricades would ensure some discipline and safety.”

Barricades prevent motorists from changing lanes and facilitates the flow of vehicular traffic in a proper direction.

“Motorists do not have the patience to wait for a few minutes when the vehicular traffic is held up,” says P. Siva, a motorist, and a resident of St. Thomas Mount.

The law and order and traffic police personnel deployed along the stretch and at the intersections remain a mute spectator, say motorists.

A traffic official promised to do the needful.
