Mobile theft spree continues at Rose Fest, 2 more cases surface

CHANDIGARH: Two more people have lodged an FIR against an unknown person for stealing their mobile phones from their pockets during the last day of Rose Festival in Sector 10. A total of 13 persons so far have reported that their phones were stolen from the event. However, police have claimed that Delhi police has arrested five persons in this case and solved the cases.

Cops said the accused have been identified as Kuldeep Singh, Jujhar Singh, Bunty Singh, Jagjeet Singh and Bhagat Singh- all residents of New Delhi. During interrogation, Delhi police had claimed to recover 55 stolen mobile phones from the possession of the accused. On Thursday, Sector 3 police obtained their transit remand and brought them in city on Thursday. UT police put IMEI number (15-digit code on phone) of stolen mobile phones under the surveillance and got their location at Delhi. UT police shared inputs with Delhi police and they nabbed all the five accused and recovered stolen phones from them.


Another complainant, Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Mohali, reported that he had gone to attend the musical event at Leisure Valley in Sector 10 on February 24 night. He added there was heavy rush at the event where some unknown person stole his phone from his pocket. people As there was heavy rush in the event and some unknown person stole away his mobile phone from his pocket. He reported the incident to Sector 3 police.


Another woman resident of Sector 40 also complained that some identified person stole away her mobile phone from the same venue on the same day. She also submitted a complaint with Sector 3 police about the theft. Sector 3 police registered two more FIRs of mobile thefts against unknown persons and started probe.


Thus, Sector 3 and Sector 17 police registered a total of 13 cases of mobile theft during the three-day annual event of Rose Festival. Most of the complainants lost their phones during the live performance of Punjabi singer Babbu Maan.
