ALLAHABAD: The Prayagraj Mela Authority created a new Guinness World record by successfully parading 503 buses along a 3.2-kilometre stretch of National Highway 19, on Thursday. The stretch on which the special buses plied connects Sahason to Nawabganj.
The earlier record for parading the maximum number of buses on a stretch of road was created in 2010 at the Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway in UAE. During the attempt, a fleet of 390 buses plied between Al Saadiyat island and Yas Island in the country to create a Guinness record.
The fleet of buses was supplied by Uttar Pradesh State Regional Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and each of the vehicles covered a distance of 3.2km at a speed of 15 km/hr, maintaining a distance of 10 to 12 meters between each other.
Initially, 510 UPSRTC buses were to ply during the exercise but seven of the vehicles failed to meet the guidelines issued by Guinness World Records. A team of two judges from the Guinness World Records supervised the attempt.
