BENGALURU: A 25-year-old photographer was arrested for allegedly taking cameras on rent from private persons and later selling them on online marketing platforms.
High Grounds police recovered from Ashwak Khan, a resident of Pipeline Road in Vijayanagar, nine cameras and 14 lenses worth Rs 33 lakh.
He was arrested based on a February 20 complaint from Vasanthnagar resident Manohar, who alleged that Ashwak had taken from him two cameras and two lenses worth Rs 7.5 lakh in December 2018. But he didn’t return them.
Preliminary investigation revealed Ashwak had a photo studio in Vijayanagar and sold it after losing money in gambling. Then he began borrowing cameras from friends whenever he bagged orders for photography and sold them online.
Police said he cheated several people in Annapoorneshwari Nagar, Jayanagar, Banashankari, CK Achchukattu, Ashokanagar, Vijayanagar and High Grounds.
“He sold cameras and lenses to persons in Bengaluru and Hyderabad for a cheap price. We seized nine Canon 5D cameras and 14 lenses worth Rs 33 lakh,” a police officer said.
