NEW DELHI: Running out of patience with the refusal of controversial real estate firm Amrapali's top officials to cooperate with the police, the Supreme Court on Thursday sent the Group's CMD Anil Sharma and two directors to police custody for siphoning off money invested by home-buyers.
The SC took note that home-buyers are yet to get their flats and said no one involved in the fraud will be spared. The apex court, which has for the last 18 months been trying to rescue home-buyers by ensuring completion of housing projects, gave the nod to Delhi Police to go ahead with criminal proceedings.
The Group, along with Sharma and its directors Shiv Priya and Ajay Kumar, will be investigated for cheating buyers and the officials will be in police custody for interrogation.
The SC even expanded the ambit of the probe by asking Delhi Police to not confine it to only one complaint and examine all cases of cheating of other home-buyers in all housing projects. "Sorry. It is now over. We should have done it earlier at first go. You were in our custody and we are now handing you over to Delhi Police," the SC told the officials.
Sharma and the two directors were in custody of the Supreme Court since October last year without being arrested and put under UP police supervision.
