PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has further intensified the action against property tax defaulters ahead of the end of financial year. The administration has warned to cut off water supply connections of the tax defaulters.

The civic body has been able to collect Rs 1, 058 crore property tax so far starting from April 2018. Officials in the tax department said that they have identified the defaulters and initiated visits to every property which has not paid the tax dues. The action against the tax defaulters has been intensified from last two months.

“Many private and commercial properties were sealed by the administration over long-pending tax dues. This is now being followed by cutting of the water connections," an official said.

Official added that so far the administration put the seal on about 660 properties for non-payment of tax. In the period of February 1 to 25, the property tax department was able to recover dues of Rs 44.89 crore. The action against the tax defaulters will continue until the end of the month.

A target has been set to collect maximum tax dues from the property owners, the official added.
