Nagpur district planning committee funds hiked by 19%
Ashish Roy | TNN | Mar 2, 2019, 04:40 ISTNagpur: Despite state finances being in a bad shape, finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has increased the district planning committee (DPC) funds for Nagpur district by 19%.
Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule told the media on Friday that the allocation for 2018-19 was Rs650 crore which was increased to Rs777 crore. “The increase of Rs127 crore is a record,” he said.
Bawankule said that the scheduled castes plan (SCP) size was Rs200 crore, tribal sub-plan (TSP) Rs52 crore and general plan Rs525 crore. “Under the general plan, Rs123 crore has been sanctioned for urban area development, rural area development Rs58 crore, health Rs56 crore, sports Rs66 crore, roads Rs75 crore, chief minister’s village road scheme Rs85 crore, energy Rs50 crore, etc,” he added.
The minister said that BJP-Shiv Sena government had increased Nagpur’s DPC funds significantly. “The Congress-NCP government had sanctioned Rs330 crore in 2013-14. Now it has reached Rs777 crore,” he added.
On spending DPC funds for 2018-19, he said the entire amount has been spent. “In fact, there is a spill over of Rs150 crore,” Bawankule further said.
According to the minister, a robot will be purchased for surgeries at government medical college and hospital (GMCH) using DPC funds. “Deekshabhoomi would also be developed,” he said.
He further said that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Mungantiwar had asked him to do a study of human development index (HDI) in the district. “I submitted the report to Mungantiwar and pointed out that Nagpur had never got its due as the second capital of the state. Congress-NCP governments had always given it a discriminatory treatment. He (the FM) promised me to undo the wrong this time and he has kept his word,” added Bawankule.
Kanhan tunnel to cost Rs1,800 crore
Wapcos has completed survey for the tunnel linking Kanhan river with Totladoh dam. The cost has been estimated at Rs1,800 crore. According to Bawankule, the design will be submitted to the state government in a fortnight. On Madhya Pradesh government’s willingness to release water from Chaurai dam, the minister said, “It has promised to do so if we face drinking water shortage. The officials have asked me to submit an application in late April.”
Central Jail to be shifted to Babhulkheda
The state government has decided to shift Central Jail to Babhulkheda near Bhonsala military school. An inter-modal station (IMS) will come up on jail land and hence it has to be shifted. Bawankule said that the cost of the new jail will be included in the IMS estimate. “We will have videoconferencing facility in the jail so that undertrials need not be taken to court every time,” he added.
