Ranchi: The state Congress unit held an hour-long symbolic protest across all district headquarters condemning the BJP’s political programmes amid cross border tensions and demanded the safe release of Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. BJP a held special screenings across the state to tune into PM Narendra Modi’s live interaction programme titled Mera Booth Sabse Majboot on Thursday.

“In this times of tension, the entire country should stand united irrespective of political lineages however our Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks otherwise given the way he went on holding his party programme on Thursday,” Ajoy Kumar, state Congress president, who along with over two dozen workers of district party unit sat at Bapu Vatika at Morhabadi, said. He added, “He (Modi) and his party doesn’t practise that they preach.”

Taking a dig at BJP, the principal opposition party — Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on the other hand tweeted that while the country wanted release of Abhinandan, country’s prime minister was busy chasing booths. “The country wants an able Pradhan Manti not Prachar Mantri in times like these,” remarked party’s working president Hemant Soren further.

Notably, last week too JMM at a press conference had criticised BJP for selectively targeting missionary institutions like St Xavier’s College and XISS forcing them to cancel their annual college festivals post Pulwama terror attack but maintained a blind eye towards its political programmes, Itkhori Mahotsav among others.

BJP’s general secretary Deepak Prakash however said that they don’t have to take sermons from any party. “Why shouldn’t Congress cancel its AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s visit on March 2 in Ranchi? It is the same party whose president (Rahul Gandhi) was on foreign vacation immediately two days after 26/11 terror attack. By joining hands with Congress, JMM too has exposed itself,” Prakash, adding that for BJP nation is always above the party, said.
