Rape accused PI’s kin poke holes in FIR against him
Soumitra Bose | tnn | Mar 2, 2019, 04:50 ISTNagpur: The controversial episode of alleged sexual exploitation of a 30-year-old woman by Second inspector Prashant Jadhav of Wadi police station has taken yet another twist, with questions being raised on the place of incident as mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR).
In the FIR registered at Wadi police station on February 27, the survivor mentioned their first physical encounter had taken place at Jadhav’s rented quarter (number 1/71/6) at Ordnance Factory Ambajhari in February 2018. She said the senior officer had lured her into physical relationship by promising marriage. Jadhav’s family has now furnished a receipt, which says the PI deposited advance payment of Rs5,000 to rent the quarter in April 2018.
Sources close to Jadhav’s family also claimed that soon they would furnish yet another proof that the PI was residing at police gymkhana till March 2018. He stayed with a police volunteer for another month before moving into the rented apartment in April, they said.
ACP SS Shinde, MIDC division, who is investigation officer in the case, said the content of the FIR was as per survivor’s version. “Police need to take on record whatever the complainant has to say. The case would be probed and all relevant facts verified, and then included in the charge sheet, or final report would be sent to the court,” said the ACP.
Jadhav’s wife Jaya, who met CP Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay on Thursday, said her husband’s complaint against the survivor for blackmailing and extortion was rejected outright by ACP Shinde of MIDC division, who had spent more than a month conducting the probe before lodging the FIR.
Defence counsel Sameer Sonwane, who helped Jadhav procure anticipatory bail from the sessions court, said the FIR contents contradict many factual positions, on which the complaint would be challenged. “The report is merely an afterthought,” he said.
When the offence was registered, the survivor too had been booked for hurling abuses and also blocking the way of Jadhav and his wife when they were passing through GPO Chowk. Sitabuldi police, after referring to CCTV footage, had registered an offence against the survivor.
Sources from police department claimed the survivor had filed similar complaints against a civilian and another cop from crime branch in the past.
