NEW DELHI: Soon, how many guests you can invite to a wedding reception at a farmhouse, motel or hotel in Delhi will be determined by the floor area of the venue and its parking capacity.
The floor area will be divided by 1.5 sqm and the number of cars that can be parked at the venue multiplied by four. Whichever figure is less will be the maximum number of guests you can invite. For instance, only 400 people will be allowed to attend if the venue area is 600sq m (600/1.5 = 400) or if the parking capacity for 100 cars (100x4 = 800).
This has been laid down in the draft rules framed by the Delhi government to restrict the number of guests and check wastage of food and water. Wedding processions, with band and baraat, including horse-drawn carriages, will not be allowed on the road outside the venue, and surplus or leftover food will be distributed among the underprivileged. Also, no cars will be allowed to park outside the venue.
For years now, areas such as Chhatarpur, Mahipalpur, Bijwasan, Punjabi Bagh and Rohini, have witnessed huge congestion because of marriage processions and cars parked on the roadside.
