NEW DELHI: Authorities of Allahabad University have decided that students, taking admission at AU from the next academic session (2019-20) and seeking hostel accommodation, would be allotted hostel right at the time of his or her counseling. The allotment would be done on the basis of merit of the student concerned.
Moreover, when the student would be allotted a room in any of hostel of AU or that of the trust, he or she would be required to deposit the hostel fee along with the course fee in which the student would be admitted.
“From this year, the student would have to fill the choice of availing the hostel facility at the time of filling the application form for appearing in UGAT (undergraduate admission test) and after the declaration of the result, the merit of the student would decide whether he or she could be given hostel accommodation or not and also the hostel in which the accommodation would be provided”, said dean student welfare (DSW), Prof Harsh Kumar.
He further said that this single window system would solve several issues and save lot of time for the administration too. As per the previous practice, the student was asked to fill the hostel form after the student is admitted at AU. Thereafter around two months of time is taken for releasing the list of hostel allotment.
Moreover, even though the student is allotted a room, varsity often face the problem of delay in depositing the hostel fee. Now, the student would be have to pay the hostel fee right at the time of getting admission.
“Although this is the first phase wherein we are taking the hostel fee at the time of allotment of room at any given hostel by the freshly admitted student, varsity is mulling over the thought that the annual hostel fee from IInd and IIIrd year students would be realised at the time of depositing the annual fee of the course”, said Prof Harsh.
Further, the varsity authorities have constituted two separate cell for the male and female students pursuing various courses on the campus. This cell would help the students on the issues pertaining to academics and discipline and any student can meet the members of the cell in case of any grievance or suggestions he or she so wish.
