CHANDIGARH: A taxi driver snatched an iPhone from a woman in Sector 7 market early on Thursday.
Pooja, a resident of Sector 22, said in her police complaint, "I had gone to a club in Sector 7 on Wednesday night. On way home, I was talking on phone when a car slowed down near me. Suddenly, its driver snatched my phone and sped away."
She raised the alarm and called up the police around 1am. "I could not note down its registration number, but it indicated that it was a taxi," she added.
Police are scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area. "The woman is not able to tell the exact spot where the snatching took place," said a cop.
A case has been registered under sections 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person) and 379 (theft) of the IPC.
Meanwhile, Maloya police on Thursday claimed to have solved a snatching case with the arrest of a 17-year-old boy. The boy had snatched a phone from Sunita, a resident of Dadumajra, near her house and sped away on his bike on February 24. The snatched phone has been recovered from his possession. He was produced before the juvenile justice board and sent to Sector 25 juvenile home.
