10 new H1N1 cases in Surat city, four in rural

Surat: After 10 new swine flu cases were reported from Surat city and four from Surat rural area on Thursday, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) health authorities cracked the whip on a local hospital for its negligence to report H1N1 cases and for improper treatment. Officials issued notice to Ayushyam Children Hospital on VIP road at Bharthana for not getting H1N1 tests conducted nor reporting about it and also for improper treatment of such afflicted patients by not quarantining them.

With these 10 ten new cases the total number of infected people has risen to 119 since January 1, with one person dying from the virus. On Wednesday, nine cases tested H1N1 positive in city, while four new cases were detected in Surat rural taking the total number of affected people to 22, while three patients died from it.


Among the H1N1 infected patients in Surat rural all are males including two toddlers from Choryasi and Kamrej areas. Of the 10 new cases reported from Surat city, two are year-old infants besides one male patient each from Athwalines, Shayamdham chowk, Nana Varachha, Amroli Char rasta, and Rander. Mota Varachha, Parvat Patiya and Udhna road areas reported a female patient each.


Six patients receiving treatment for H1N1 at different hospitals were discharged on Thursday after their conditions improved. There are 35 patients still receiving treatment in different hospitals of the city. Of them 26 are stated to be stable, two are on ventilator and seven are on oxygen support.
