Static compactors and enclosed sites to come up at dumping sites

Ludhiana: Corporate houses have been roped in to help Ludhiana MC in covering open garbage collection points where the MC will not be able to install static waste compactors due to space crunch. Around 12 sites have been identified where the corporate houses will construct enclosed dumping sites as an alternate solution to the static waste compactors. The enclosed sites will also have graffitis made on its walls.
Meanwhile, the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) is also going to hand over the work orders to the contractors hired for installing the static waste compactors across the identified locations in the city.

The MC officials claimed that under CSR activities, the big corporate houses have decided to take up such works. On the basis of Mohali model (of what), the civic body will come up with the enclosed sites so that garbage does not scatter on roads.

While confirming the same, the superintending engineer of bridges and road department of MC, HS Bhullar, said, “Garbage remains scattered in the abandoned green belts near Lodhi Club. One of the mall owners has taken the responsibility to cover the garbage dump at this point.” He said they have prepared list of some more locations where similar work would be done.

A resident of Field Ganj, Amit Sharma, said, “The road leading to civil hospital has a garbage dump where garbage could be seen scattered even on road and commuters, especially the patients going towards civil hospital face problems. It will be a good step if they will cover the dumps or install the static compactors at the dumps.” He said city roads should be declared dump free as they are an eyesore and also raise a stink.

Meanwhile, the tenders for hiring the company to install 24 static compactors in various parts of the city were finally approved and LIT officials are claiming to hand over the work orders shortly. Notably, these compactors are meant for the garbage collection from the rehdi pullers who throw the garbage at the dumps in open. These rehdi pullers will be able to throw garbage in the bins attached to the compactors. It will seal the garbage in the compactor. Garbage compactors and waste collection vehicles compress waste so that more of it can be stored in the same space.
