PATNA: In the wake of the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the NDA’s ‘Sankalp rally’ on Sunday, the district administration has restricted the movement of common people inside Gandhi Maidan.
Of the 10 gates of Gandhi Maidan (the venue of the rally), nine have already been closed and entry of common people restricted. A high-level meeting, chaired by chief secretary Deepak Kumar, was held on Wednesday to review the preparations for the proposed visit of the PM. Additional chief secretary (home) Amir Subhani, DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, IG (Patna zone) Sunil Kumar, DIG (central range) Rajesh Kumar, district magistrate Kumar Ravi and senior superintendent of police Garima Malik were among the senior officers present at the meet.
“We are taking all precautionary measures. Guidelines issued for the VVIPs’ movement will be followed strictly,” IG Sunil Kumar said, refusing to share more details on the pretext of confidentiality.
According to sources, around 4,000 police personnel, including SPs, DSPs and inspectors will be deployed at the venue of the rally. In addition, 400 magistrates will be deputed to monitor the security arrangements in and around Gandhi Maidan.
An official press release issued by the police headquarters said, “A police outpost has been made operational at Gandhi Maidan under the supervision of a senior police officer. Continuous anti-sabotage check of the venue and all sensitive points are being carried out.”
Dog squad and bomb disposal squad personnel have also been pressed into service to avert any untoward incident. Besides, vigil on the movement of people at bus stands, railway stations and borders of the district is being maintained.
An IPS officer claimed senior officials of different intelligence agencies were also coordinating with the state police to thwart any untoward incident.
Barricades will be erected on the way from the airport to Gandhi Maidan to ensure smooth flow of vehicles in the PM’s convoy. Movement of vehicles will also be diverted to avoid traffic snarls.
