The Medical Council of India has allowed all the medical colleges in the country, which had applied for the upgradation of postgraduate diploma seats to postgraduate degree seats, in response to its offer sent to all the recognised medical colleges in the country.

As was expected, the Goa Medical College is not in the list of the medical colleges that have been granted permission to convert the PG diploma seats to degree seats.

The GMC authorities failed to respond to the offer by the Union health and family welfare ministry to convert the diploma seats.

Having missed the deadline, the GMC authorities rushed the acceptance letter as late as February 21, 2019, when the cutoff date was January 25.

The delay has cost the students a chance to get admitted to PG degree courses.

In all, 26 students would have benefitted if the college had to apply on time.

Accordingly, 684 postgraduate diploma courses have been allowed to be upgraded from the academic session 2019-2020.

The permission to convert the postgraduate diploma seats to postgraduate degree seats would however be subject to affiliation of the additional PG degree seats by the concerned university.
