Bugatti Teases Taillights And Dorsal Fin Of Modern-Day 57 SC Atlantic

Bugatti has released a pair of new teaser videos of its upcoming hypercar bound for the Geneva Motor Show.

Initial reports about the French car manufacturer working on something special for the Swiss show surfaced in early February. Since then, Bugatti has hinted that its ‘secret’ project is a modern interpretation of the iconic Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic. These latest teaser videos confirm this is indeed what Bugatti will launch at Geneva.

The first teaser is titled ‘Any modern interpretation of the 57 SC Atlantic should keep Bugatti’s unique tail light…’ The clip shows just that, with a single LED strip of red across the vehicle’s rear end, much like the Chiron. The teaser also offers a brief glimpse of the vehicle’s rear decklid, but few details are visible.

As for the second teaser, it’s titled ‘Any modern interpretation of the 57 SC Atlantic would definitely keep the Atlantic’s dorsal…’. The teaser video offers a glimpse of this dorsal fin which stretches along the hood, over the roof, and splits the rear window in half. This brief clip also previews the new vehicle’s prominent front wheel arches.

According to reports, this one-off Bugatti was commissioned by Ferdinand Piëch, the former chairman of the VW Group, who allegedly paid €16 million ($18.2 million) for it.

It’s likely that the bespoke supercar is based on the Chiron or Divo rather than being developed from scratch. In any case, it should be powered by a quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine pumping out at least 1500 hp, as making a new engine for an one-off doesn’t make any sense. Then again, they have a huge array of powertrains to choose from within the VW Group, although the W16 is synonymous with (and exclusive to) Bugatti.
