Women in Maharashtra village decide not to vote for parties who distribute liquor before polls

GADCHIROLI: Alcohol is a dominant means of inducing voters in many part of India. In many constituencies, candidates of different political parties distribute illicit liquor and other freebies to buy votes.

Despite the election commission's vigil to prevent the use of inducements by candidates, complaints about the rampant use of liquor have poured in from different parts of the state.

Hundreds of women from Murumgaon village in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra have decided that they will not give vote to political parties who distribute liquor before polls

'Mukti Path' is a women's organisation in this village and regularly organises awareness camps for women.


Lok Sabha election is scheduled and many candidates from different political parties are planning to distribute liquor before the voting.


The women have decided to form a group in every locality to keep check on liquor distribution during the election. These groups will take help of local police.


They will keep vigil on vehicles ferrying liquor barrel during the polls.
