Nurse, 31, who left her two children, two and four, in her car on a 31C day while she went shopping at Kmart blames the incident on a 'momentary lapse' of judgement
- A nurse who left her sons in her car on a 31 degree-morning given $1,500 bond
- The boys, aged two and four, were left sleeping in the locked car on February 2
- Defence argued she earlier ran car's air-conditioning meaning vehicle was cool
- Magistrate did not record conviction following the incident in eastern Brisbane
A nurse who pleaded guilty to leaving her sons in her car while she went shopping at Kmart has been slapped with a fine.
The mother's counsel argued she suffered from a 'momentary lapse' of judgement at Wynnum Plaza in Brisbane's east on February 2 and only left the two and four-year-olds for seven minutes.
But the woman, who has no prior criminal history, was told by a judge 'leaving your children for one minute is one minute too long' and released on a $1,500 bond.

'The reality is you did not give your children sufficient thought,' magistrate Athol Kennedy told the registered nurse according to The Courier-Mail.
Cleveland Magistrates Court heard the mother was also a law student and her lawyer said she had a lot on her plate when she left the children to buy bean bag filling.
The woman's defence argued she had earlier been running the car's air-conditioning, meaning the car was cool at the time.
The judge told the weeping mother her decision to leave the children in the car could have had resulted in a far worse outcome - highlighting the deaths of two young boys who drowned and whose bodies were found in Townsville this week.

'There'll be an extra two little seats at (their table),' magistrate Kennedy said.

The magistrate said the bond's amount was high but emphasised the real danger she had put her children in.
