Patna: Bank employee robbed of Rs 48 lakh in Saran district

CHHAPRA: A gang of criminals on Wednesday looted Rs 48 lakh from Rampur branch of Allahabad Bank near Kadna under Garkha police station in Saran district.
Eyewitness said that after looting the cash box the miscreants, numbering six, fled on three motorbikes. The cash was being brought from IDBI Bank branch at Chhapra for delivery at Rampur branch of Allahabad Bank when the criminals struck. The incident ocurred when the bank staff had gone out during lunch break.

According to locals, as soon as the driver Kaushal Kumar Singh, guard and an bank employee alighted from the van with the cash box and walked up the stairs to reach the bank located on 1st floor, they were suddenly surrounded and overpowered by the armed criminals who opened fired injuring the Kushal in the process.


The criminals then snatched the gun of the guard and also injured him also before fleeing with the cash box. Incidentally, the branch manager Ratna Kumar Singh was away from the bank on some official work when the incident occured.


Meanwhile, the driver has been admitted in Garkha PHC with head injury.


Saran (range) DIG B K Verma, Saran SP Har Kishore Rai and other police officials visited the bank branch following the incident. No arrest has so far been made till the time of filing this report. The DIG said police have started investigation into the incident. It may be recalled that few years ago the miscreants had looted Rs 1.25 crore of PNB from a cash van near Baniapur of the district.
