The video of George Pell's interview with police in Rome

Seated across a table from two detectives in a hotel room in Rome, this is the moment George Pell first denied to police that he had sexually assaulted two choirboys in the 1990s.

Now that Pell is in jail awaiting sentence after being found guilty, the County Court has released the video of the cardinal’s interview with Victorian police on October 19, 2016.

The video shows Cardinal George Pell sitting opposite Detective Sergeant Chris Reed, who is out of view of the camera, in a conference room at the Hilton Hotel at Rome airport.

Detective Superintendent Paul Sheridan is also at the table, as is Pell’s lawyer Michael do Rozario.
