Defamation suit filed against AAP leaders in ‘CLU scam’
TNN | Feb 28, 2019, 07:35 ISTLudhiana: The owners of Grand Manor Homes residential flats in Ludhiana have filed a defamation suit against opposition leader Harpal Singh Cheema, and deputy leader of opposition Saravjit Kaur Manuke — both from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) — in a local court on Wednesday.
Baljinder Singh Kahlon, owner of RK Builders and Developers, alleged that both the MLAs used the name of his company for political mileage, and defamed it without verifying facts. The company has claimed damages worth Rs100 crore for tarnishing their image and dragging their name in a ‘scam’.
The defamation suit was filed in the court of civil judge Shivani Garg, which has issued summons to both MLAs for a hearing slated on March 7. RK Builders and Developers claimed they had all legal documents and permissions from the municipal corporation, and only then began the construction work.
The CLU (change of land use) scam had rocked the state assembly last Friday after Saravjit Kaur raised the issue during zero hour. It was alleged that the CLU had been granted to the private developer in violation of norms, with the intention of benefiting his multi-crore luxury apartment project coming up on Gill Road in the city.
