GREATER NOIDA: Four men, including an ex-Armyman, were arrested on Wednesday night from Ecotech 1 area of Greater Noida for allegedly robbing a truck and killing its driver on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) near Chaaysa village in Faridabad.
The probe in the case was launched on February 20, after a Greater Noida-based trader Rajkumar Pandey alleged that a truck carrying 120 air coolers worth Rs 12 lakh went missing along with its driver, Ajay Kumar Vishwakarma. Pandey told police that the driver was supposed to deliver the consignment to Ranchi. Two days after the case was lodged, Kumar was found in the fields alongside the EPE.
The four persons arrested in the case were identified as Sachin (19), a native of Ecotech 1, Rohit (19) from Kasna and Gaurav (22), and Satish (20), both belonging to Palwal district of Haryana. Police said Sachin worked in the same company from where the consignment was dispatched. He allegedly conspired the robbery in which he included his friends Satish and Rohit, besides his relative Gaurav who was sacked from the army after being convicted for his wife’s murder in 2016.
“Sachin had stopped coming to his office soon after the robbery. Later, we identified him in a CCTV footage fetched from a toll plaza at the EPE in which he was seen collecting the toll receipt. After he was arrested on Wednesday night, he confessed to his crime. Sachin revealed that he and Rohit had boarded the truck soon after it left from Site 5 in Kasna after urging the driver to drop them till Pari Chowk, however, later he flashed a gun at the driver and asked him to continue driving. In Chaysa village, two of his other accomplices joined him. Later, the four men shot the truck driver, dumped his body in the fields and fled with the truck carrying air coolers,” said Sujeet Kumar Upadhyay, the SHO of Ecotech 1 police station.
The SHO further added that the truck was recovered with 80 air coolers. The robbers allegedly sold the rest of them. “The accused were planning to sell the rest of the looted goods. They were booked under IPC sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property),” he added. All four were produced in a Noida court on Thursday that sent them to jail.
