However, the concreted stretch of the national highway being maintained by the National Highways Division of the State Public Works Department has not seen any restoration work, except for embankment strengthening with sand bags near Chodeshwari Temple on the Dakshina Kannada-Hassan district border.

Public Works officials were not available for comments on whether the department has received a report from experts of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The department had sought opinion in September last for Shiradi Ghat as well as Sampaje (Mangaluru-Madikeri) Ghat.

K. Shankar Bhat, who headed a team of civil engineers from Puttur to inspect the damaged stretches in August last year, told The Hindu that the team would shortly make another visit to ascertain facts and submit another report to the government.

The team had recommended trimming of hillocks abutting the highway to widen it instead of raising river embankment from as deep as 120 ft from the river bed to reduce the cost.
