Euro NCAP: Mercedes G-Class, Seat Tarraco And Honda CR-V Score 5 Stars

The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Seat Tarraco and Honda CR-V have all passed Euro NCAP’s tests with flying colors.

Merc’s rugged off-roader was tested in G350d spec and was awarded a maximum 5 star rating, with the safety specialists noting “an impressive performance in each of the four areas of assessment”. Thus, the SUV scored 90 percent in Adult Occupant, 83 percent in Child Occupant, 78 percent in Pedestrian and 72 percent in Safety Assist.

Boasting a unique body structure said to give it “class-leading rigidity and stiffness”, as well as a wide range of active safety features, the Honda CR-V also scored 5 stars. Euro NCAP crash-tested the 2.0-liter hybrid variant, giving it 93 and 83 percent in the Adult and Child occupant categories, respectively, 70 percent in Pedestrian and 76 percent in Safety Assist.

The Seat Tarraco, which is the Spanish brand’s version of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq, achieved an even more impressive 97 percent in Adult Occupant safety. The Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist categories were rated at 84, 79 and 79 percent, respectively. According to Seat, the Tarraco scored “the highest level of safety possible in the consumer protection body’s series of tests”.

“Here we have three new vehicles, competing in the same segment and getting top safety ratings. That’s impressive enough, but the fact that all three off-roaders are equipped with pedestrian and cyclist AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) systems really demonstrates the power of consumer testing, not only to encourage better performance, but also to promote new technologies as standard-fit across Europe”, commented Euro NCAP’s Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen.
