The Honda Civic Type R is arguably today's greatest hot hatchback. Decades of Type R innovation has brought us to the point where the latest Civic is pushing more than 300bhp through its front wheels.

So, how did we get here? What defines what makes a great Type R and, indeed, a great front-wheel drive driver's car at all?

We take a Civic to revisit one of the greatest Type Rs ever and, perhaps, the best front-wheel drive driver's car of all time: the Integra Type R, the small coupe that was among the first Type Rs in Europe, and whose VTEC engine went on to define Honda's performance brand.

Very nice video. How about one on the 405MI16 next, perhaps you could embarace Peugeot about how much better their cars drove 30 years ago?
