'I just feel very vulnerable': Man, 71, dragged from luxury car in brutal daylight attack
A 71-year-old man has been dragged from his luxury car in a terrifying daylight carjacking in the city's south-east, police say.
Detectives said the man got into his Mercedes coupe which was parked in a Bluff Road shopping centre car park in Hampton about 4.20pm on February 17.
Police allege two men then approached the vehicle, one pulled open the driver’s door and dragged the man out of the car.
The second offender opened the passenger side door and got into the car.
The alleged thieves were last seen driving north on Bluff Road towards South Road.
The victim, Maurice, told radio station 3AW on Wednesday that he'd been left traumatised.
"I think I’m a soft target at 71," the Hampton East man said.
"My blood pressure went through the roof. I’m not sleeping that well and I just feel very vulnerable."
Maurice said when the thieves couldn’t start the car one of the men got out and demanded the remote to start the vehicle, threatening to bash him if he didn't hand it over.
Police also believe the same car was later involved in a minor crash at the intersection of Dingley Bypass and Kingston Road in Heatherton.
The driver of the Mercedes did not stop and the vehicle was located a short time later dumped in Mack Crescent, Clarinda about 4.55pm, police said.
Both men are described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, Leading senior Constable Natalie Dean said.
The first man had a medium build and was believed to be aged in his 20s.
He was wearing a grey jumper with black tracksuit pants with white stripes along the side.
He was also carrying a black bag, black hat and wearing white shoes.
The second man had a medium build and was also aged in his early 20s and was wearing black pants, a grey t-shirt with a black vest and black hat.
Investigators believe the men were at the car park for at least an hour before the incident occurred and are appealing for anyone who may have driven past the men or have dash cam footage to contact them.
Detectives have also released a computer generated image along with CCTV and images of the men they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
