Youth of country should be prepared to play bigger role for development of nation and society : PM

Calling on the youth to connect with the vision of New India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said they should be prepared to play a bigger role for development of the nation and the society.

Addressing the closing ceremony of National Youth Parliament Festival Awards 2019 where he conferred the Awards, the PM expressing concern at the poor working performance of the Rajya Sabha , urged the younger generation to ‘question’ the members of the Upper House the reasons of their such record.

Speaking at the ceremony, where Minister for Youth affairs and Sports was also present, the PM said that the festival represents the image of a New India.

The Prime Minister urged the youth of the country to develop better communication skills for the betterment of the society.

He said that the words one speaks may or may not be impressive but it should definitely be inspiring.

He asked the youth of the nation to take up various issues and debate on it.

‘Young people have the advantage of freshness and new ideas, enabling them to face new challenges more effectively,’the PM said.

“In last Parliament session, the Rajya Sabha performance was only 8 per cent. Such records are certainly a matter of concern,” Prime Minister said and urged the students and youth to organise district level and state level meetings and invite the Rajya Sabha members from their respective states into such functions and question them about such poor record of performance.

“Call them as chiefs guests, entertain them well and then have a question-answer session. And then ask them what you did in Parliament,” Prime Minister said amid thundering applause from the gathering.

Prime Minister expressed hope that National Youth Parliament Festival platform would provide direction and shape to the energy of the youth and a better dialogue process. He said that such events would aid those aspiring to become Parliamentarians.

The Prime Minister, conferred the National Youth Parliament Festival Awards 2019,and distributed the certificates to the winners.

Earlier, the award winners had the opportunity to share their thoughts with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister also interacted with the participants of the festival.

National Youth Parliament Festival 2019 has been jointly organised by National Service Scheme and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on the theme of ‘Be the Voice of New India and Find solutions and Contribute to Policy’.
