MUMBAI: Unable to bear his mother being beaten up by his father, a 28-year-old Virar man allegedly killed his father on Tuesday.
Malvin D’Souza fled home after the murder and his mother refused to reveal to the police who killed Wilson (51).
Arnala police registered a case of murder and arrested Malvin after his cousin told cops Malvin could have killed his uncle.
Malvin, who runs a medical store in Arnala, lived with his parents. After working in Dubai for several years, his father had returned home on retirement. On Tuesday, an allegedly drunk Wilson got into a fight with his wife and assaulted her.
When Malvin learnt about the fight, he questioned his father. The two got into a brawl and Malvin allegedly picked up an iron rod and assaulted his father, who died on the spot.
Screams from the house alerted neighbours who informed Wilson’s nephew who is the complainant. Police send the body for autopsy.
Police found Malvin loitering around in Virar in the wee hours of Wednesday and picked him up. He was traced based on his cellphone location.
Malvin told the police that since his growing up years his father would beat his mother whenever he returned for a month from Dubai on annual leave. He told the police his father had a drinking problem and would even try to beat him up, but he would be protected by his mother.
The Vasai court has remanded Malvin to police custody till March 4. He has been booked under IPC section 302 for murder. Police recovered the iron rod from the flat.
