Woman among 5 held for extortion attempt in Morbi

Rajkot: Five persons, including a woman and a police constable, were arrested for running an extortion racket from Halvad town of Morbi district on Monday night.
Police arrested 30-year-old married woman Vasant Chavda of Charalva village of Morbi and her accomplices Mukesh Sanojiya (46), Muzaffar Iqbal Lolakiya (28), Ejaz Hanif Kagathara (25) and police constable Divyarajsinh Zala (27), who is posted at Halvad police station.
The complainants — an uncle-nephew duo — they had called the Chavda to their farm house in Gikiyari village of Halvad on February 23, said police. On earlier occasion too, the duo had availed Chavda’s services who worked allegedly as a call girl.
But on February 23, after Chavda reached the farm house, the other four accused reached there and threatened to frame the complainant duo in a rape case if they did not pay Rs 1.5lakh. The accused also stripped the victims and recorded their video on mobile phones and also threatened to make it viral.
However, the duo met the Morbi superintendent of police and lodged a complaint with Morbi taluka police station. Following this, the five accused were arrested and booked for extortion, criminal intimidation and under the IT Act.
The local crime branch said that the accused are suspected to be involved in running a racket of extorting money from men in a similar fashion.
