Bhopal: A 25-year-old man who was brought to the police station for allegedly raping a minor has sustained 70 per cent burns after he set himself ablaze. He burnt himself in front of the entire staff of Katara hills police station on Tuesday morning.
As a fallout of the incident SHO Katara hills KL Dhangi, sub inspector JP Singh and head constable Bhanu Pratap Singh have been suspended. The accused Rajkumar Parmar had allegedly raped a minor girl while she was returning after her tutions on Sunday. Accused runs a stall near Barkatullah University.
After an filing an FIR, he was held and brought to the police station on Monday night. On Tuesday, he was brought out for quizzing and other works. He had a blanket, which was offered to him last night, on his body.
He managed to set himself ablaze on the sly and only when he was up in the flames, the policemen notices it and attempted to douse it. He was taken to Bansal hospital for treatment. The incident has triggered panic in the police department and it is yet to be ascertained as to where from did he get the lighter that he used to burn himself. Police station sources said a lit bidi offered by someone known to the accused may have caused the incident.
He has sustained over 70 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment. DIG Irshaad Wali said that he has ordered a magisterial probe into the matter. He said a preliminary inquiry has been launched in the matter.
