Man arrested after police find woman's body in Melbourne's east
A man has been arrested after a woman's body was found at a home in Melbourne's east on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to a home on Anthony Court in Burwood East about 9.40am, where they found the 57-year-old woman's body.
Neighbours say a large extended family has lived in the home for about a decade.
Those nearby were alerted to the incident on Wednesday morning when they heard a woman screaming, "My sister, help us, my sister", Nine News reports.
Police arrested a Clayton South man, 68, at the scene.
He is assisting police with their inquiries and homicide squad detectives are investigating. The woman's death is being treated as suspicious.
Police are also at a home on Westall Road in Clayton South, where neighbours say a man in his 60s lived with his elderly father.
Residents in Anthony Court said the house where the woman's body was found was usually quiet.
One neighbour said she thought a number of generations, or a couple of families, lived in the house.
"It seemed to be more adults. There were two ladies that often walked, they seemed to be in their 60s or 70s, walking together," she said.
"There was never any trouble, never any yelling or fighting, just working in the garden. It was absolutely normal," she said.
"It's quite surprising ... we don't even get break-ins here, it's mostly retirees so there is always someone here."
Another neighbour said they spoke little English and were very private.
"They [are] a Chinese family, they hardly mix with anyone," resident Jayasri Banerjee said.
"I saw a very elderly person who used to sit outside to sunbathe, and there was a baby. The baby's grandma used to move around with the grandchild."
She said the house had a long driveway and neighbours never heard any noise coming from the property.
In Clayton South, several police officers were searching a property linked to the investigation.
A man called Kea, who did not provide his surname, said he had lived next door to the owners of the home for more than 20 years.
He said a man who he believed was in his 60s had lived there since the mid-1990s and the man's elderly father moved in about six or seven months ago.
"The father just came from China because he's sick and comes for medical reasons," he said.
The neighbour said he had spoken to police, who had asked him whether he had heard any noises coming from the home on Wednesday morning.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
