VALPOI: Tuesday's bandh evoked mixed response in Sattari and the situation remained peaceful. All shops opened as usual in Valpoi town. Since Tuesday is the weekly market day in Valpoi, people from across Sattari come here for shopping. Due to the bandh, only a few vegetable and fruit vendors did not turn up.
In Honda-Sattari, shopkeepers supported the bandh. Honda junction and surrounding area wore a deserted look as almost all shops remained closed. The petrol pump was also shut.
The bandh, however, did not affect public transport and no untoward incidents were reported.
The Goa Mining People's Front (GMPF) had called for a bandh in Goa's mining belt to protest the failure of the BJP government in resuming mining. The front has raised the issue on several platforms and also made several attempts to attract the government's attention to the issue.
