THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP will field a strong candidate in Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency and win the seat, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MP, said here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after the party's 'Bharat ki mann ki baath' programme, he said "There's a general desire for change in Kerala, and the people in the state would want to send BJP candidates to Parliament." The Rajya Sabha MP, however, clarified that he would not be contesting from Thiruvananthapuram.
"The nation under the BJP government, during the past five years, had been on the right trajectory of economic growth," he said.
Chandrasekhar said Thiruvananthapuram deserved a BJP MP than Shashi Tharoor or a CPM representative.
Elaborating on 'Bharat ki mann ki baath', 'a nationwide process to engage citizens to collect suggestions on creating a new India', he said it was 'a unique and unprecedented approach to formulate the election manifesto by a political party in the country'.
"The past five years have been transformational in terms of creating the platform for rebuilding the country and poverty alleviation. Now, we have to set priorities for the next five years with active participation of citizens," he said.
On the initial response to the programme, the BJP MP said the party was receiving quality suggestions from across the country. "We are receiving a huge number of ideas, and the BJP is never afraid of dealing with ideas. It's turning out to be an extremely fruitful exercise," he said.
