Wrexham have been dealt yet another injury blow after manager Bryan Hughes revealed utility player Mark Carrington was set for a stint on the sidelines.
The Dragons were missing goalkeeper Rob Lainton, defenders Shaun Pearson , Manny Smith and Kevin Roberts, midfielder Luke Summerfield as well as forwards Stuart Beavon and Bobby Grant from last Saturday’s last gasp draw at Gateshead .
Hughes revealed he had been boosted by the potential return of a number of players for Saturday’s visit of Chesterfield, but had also been dealt a big loss with news Carrington had picked up a thigh strain.
“We’ve hopefully got a couple coming back for this weekend,” said Hughes.
“Shaun Pearson is hopefully training today, so he will be a big bonus to us, the club captain, if he is available for Saturday.
“Roberts and Grant are potentially coming back into the frame as well, so we will monitor them over the next couple of days.
“Carra is going to be out, he has pulled his thigh, so he is going to be out for a couple of weeks.
“And also Luke Summerfield as well, has had a reaction to his calf, so he is going to be out as well.
“We were hoping Summers might be available quite soon, but he has had a bit more of a reaction and it has gone backwards a little bit.”

Carrington has played at both left and right-back this season, while he has also featured in midfield.
The 31-year-old has been at right-back for the last three matches after Roberts suffered a recurrence of his injury in the 1-0 win at home over Dagenham & Redbridge , Hughes’ first game in charge of the club.
The manager added: “Carra is going to be a big loss, he has done well since he came in, he gives you that versatility and can play in numerous positions, which is a credit to him.
“But Robbo is not far off so it could be a like for like swap.
“But we have got to make sure Robbo is right, we don’t want him to keep breaking down with his calf.
“He’s had a couple of calf injuries over the last four weeks, so I want to make sure that is right, but we are at that stage of the season where we are going to have to call upon these players.”
Lainton missed his first minutes of National League action last Saturday as the goalkeeper failed to shake off a shoulder injury sustained in the 2-0 win at Boreham Wood the previous midweek .
Hughes had acted quickly in the build-up to Saturday’s clash at the International Stadium by bringing in Luke Simpson on non-contract terms until the end of the season as cover, with Christian Dibble making his first league start of the term.
Hughes added: “Rob is 50-50 at the moment, we’ve got to be careful with Rob, it is a shoulder injury, a joint injury, so we have got to be really mindful of that.
“That is why we have brought Simo in as cover, and like I said last week, I was always mindful of having three keepers at this stage of the season just in case anything like this did happen.
“Rob is 50-50 and we will monitor him over the next couple of days.”
