GURUGRAM: Three armed men entered a State Bank of India (SBI) money transfer outlet in broad day light on Wednesday in the Baldev Nagar area near Pataudi Chowk. However, they did not steal any cash but fled with the DVR of one of the CCTV cameras after the store caretaker raised an alarm.
Initially, the store owner insisted that he was robbed of Rs 5 lakh but it turned out to be a false allegation. Only the CCTV’s DVR was stolen by the robbers, according to police. The entire episode was caught on other CCTV cameras and police are reviewing the footage to identify and nab the accused. All angles, including personal enmity, are being probed. Around 2pm, the three armed men entered the SBI money transfer outlet cum mobile shop called Balaji Communication that is run by Nikhil Gogia. The store is looked after by his brother in-law Deepak. The men flashed a gun and asked Deepak to hand over all the cash. However, they developed cold feet when the latter raised an alarm and ran away with the CCTV DVR. Deepak informed police about the incident and a team reached the spot soon.
The footage shows the three men running out on the road as locals gathered near the store after hearing the alarm.
A fourth armed man was waiting on a bike outside the store. He started his bike and drove away while his two accomplices ran behind the vehicle and the third one ran in the opposite direction, the footage shows. After Gogia’s complaint, an FIR was registered against the four men who are yet to be identified under sections 392 (robbery), 397 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at the New Colony police station. “We are on the job and have obtained the CCTV footage. The store owner said that the men took out Rs 5 lakh and then said the amount was around Rs 8 lakh. That made us suspicious and we checked the counter and the locker and found cash of more than Rs 8 lakh there. The complainant then accepted that he was bluffing and no cash was taken. We are questioning eyewitnesses in the area and suspect involvement of some acquaintance of the store owner,” said sub-inspector Mool Chand, the additional SHO, New Colony police station.
