Bengaluru cheers surgical strike 2.0 with discounts on drinks, cakes

BENGALURU: Minutes after reports of the Indian Army carrying out a non-military pre-emptive strike on terror camps in Balakot, Pakistan, in the wee hours of Tuesday began pouring in, marketeers swung into action offering discounts and promotional offers.

In sync with the patriotic fervour sweeping across the country, the discounts and offers with specially curated promotional codes like ‘URI2PULWAMA’ and ‘SURGICAL2.0’ surfaced on the internet.

Taking marketing to another level, several companies began rolling out discounts on drinks, burgers, cakes and gifts across the country and in Bengaluru. At least aone pub in the city was also found calling on people to ‘celebrate the josh’ and offering a 50% discount on drinks. “Celebrate the josh at Copacabana. Enjoy 50% off on drinks Monday-Thursday,” read an image circulated by the pub. “In addition to tomorrow’s IPL match, today we are also celebrating India’s surgical strike,” a pub staffer said.

‘#sorrynotsorry’, ‘#IndiaStrikesBack’ and ‘#howsthejosh’ were trending in several tweets offering promotional discounts in view of the surgical strike.

CakeZone, which has several outlets in Bengaluru, put out a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, offering customers a 20% discount on all cakes with the coupon code ‘URI2PULWAMA’. “Let’s celebrate the achievement of our brave soldiers. Here’s a coupon code to celebrate this awesome moment. Use URI2PULWAMA and get 20% off on all cakes. #sorrynotsorry #Surgicalstrike2 #IndianAirForce #IndiaStrikesBack #Balakot #howsthejosh,” read the tweet from Cakezone.


Online gifting solutions platform GeekMonkey, which also delivers to Bengaluru, put out tweets, offering customers a 12% discount to mark the 12 days between the Pulwama incident and the Balakot surgical strike.

BJP workers gathered in front of their state unit headquarters, waved the tricolour, burst crackers and shouted slogans hailing the surgical strikes.
