Ambala DLSA awards Rs 4 lakh to rape survivor

AMBALA: The district legal services authority (DLSA) awarded a compensation of Rs 4.50 lakh to a rape survivor on Monday.

On May 25, 2015.a complaint was registered by the survivor, at Mahesh Nagar police station under sections 120-B, 201, 376, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)


The accused Vinod was prosecuted, who stated that on January 10, 2015, he raped her. The accused was held guilty under above-mentioned sections by the court of additional sessions judge Yashwinder Paul Singh on January 24. He was sentenced to maximum seven years of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 70,000.


The case was forwarded to the DLSA for compensation under Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013. The survivor moved an application under section 354-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for the compensation.


Danish Gupta, chief judicial magistrate-cum-secretary of Ambala DLSA, said: "According to recorded statements of the victim, she is not earning anything and is financially dependent on her mother. The family income is less than Rs 4,50,000 per annum. Therefore, in the interest of justice, an amount of Rs 4 lakh is awarded as compensation for the rehabilitation of the victim."
