Paul Manafort's Lawyers Seek Lighter Sentence: This is Not 'Murder, Drug Cartels, Organized Crime'President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s sentence should be well under the maximum sentence of 10 years for the charges of conspiracy that he pled guilty to, argues his attorneys.????Manafort faces up to 5 years in prison for each conspiracy charge when he appears before the court in Washington, D.C. On March 13th.????Prior to that, Manafort will be sentenced on March 8th in a federal court in Virginia for financial crimes he was convicted of as part of Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation where he faces 19 to 24 years in prison.????In a sentencing memo for the conspiracy charges, lawyer’s for the 69-year-old cited health issues and the forfeiture of assets as reasons for a lighter sentence.????Arguing “...This case is not about murder, drug cartels, organized crime, the Madoff Ponzi scheme or the collapse of Enron”????Last week, Special Counsel Mueller in a filing said that Manafort “brazenly violated the law”...????...and while Mueller had no opinion on the sentence length, he did say the former Trump campaign chairman does not deserve leniency. | |||||
