Indore: Detained medical students are no more DAVV’s labiality

Indore: Medical, dental, ayurveda and related course students, who could not clear their exams successfully, are no more a labiality of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV).  The coordination committee – the apex body of higher education in the state – has directed Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University in Jabalpur to own backlog students from medical and related courses from all the universities, including DAVV, in the state.

“The coordination committee has asked the traditional universities to shift the detained students to MPMSC for completion of their courses,” DAVV vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad said. Unfolding the past, colleges running medical, dental, paramedical, nursing, ayurveda, unani, homeopathy and other related courses were brought under the umbrella MPMSC a year after it was established in 2011.

In the initial year, the MPPSC took only new batches under its jurisdiction whereas the traditional universities continued with older batches till they graduate.  The final batches of MBBS, BDS and other related courses passed out last year from DAVV but nearly 1200 students remained detained.

For them, the university was required to conduct 51 exams in different subjects this year. Still there was no guarantee that they all will clear the exams. “Since there is no duration for completion of medical course, the university would have to exam till the last detained student walk out of the campus. We never know when that would happen so a demand was raised to shit onus of holding exams for detained students on MPPSC. The coordination committee accepted our request,” Dhakad said.

He stated now the MPPSC would hold exams for detained students and declare their results. “Our responsibility will be only to prepare marksheets as per the declared results and award degrees,” Dhakad said.
