Sherri Shepherd is revealing the perks of posing as her good friend Octavia Spencer
Sherri Shepherd has no qualms about posing as her famous friend Octavia Spencer — especially when it gets her into the Delta Sky Lounge!
The 51-year-old actress shared a hilarious Instagram video of herself addressing Spencer, 46, on Tuesday in which she explained how she found herself in the lounge with other passengers assuming she was the Oscar winner.
“Octavia, I am in the VIP lounge in the airport in New Orleans,” Shepherd began in a whisper. “This guy is being really loud, he wants to know why I haven’t been nominated for another Oscar this year and now everybody here is wondering why I haven’t also been nominated for another Oscar.”
The actress shared the tough spot she was in, saying she was running the risk of being kicked out of her special accommodations.
“People are telling me how much they love me in Hidden Figures and The Help,” she said. “They think that I am Octavia Spencer and I can’t tell them that I’m Sherri Shepherd because they’re going to throw me out of the VIP lounge here at Delta… because I used your name to get in.”
Looking off to the side, she nodded at a person offscreen and said, “Hmmm, next year,” in reference to a possible Oscar nomination in 2020.

Shepherd sighed and looked at the camera as she said, “Boy.”
While Spencer did not comment on the post, she did like the video as a sign there were no hard feelings about the mishap. Taraji P. Henson did share her thoughts, writing, “@octaviaspencer @sherrieshepherd I AM SCREAMING,” along with several laughing and kiss emojis.
Shepherd commented with heart emojis and told a different commenter she didn’t mind being mistaken for Spencer.
“Never insulted. It’s one of the highest honors — especially if I get some perks that come w mistaken identity,” she wrote.
Spencer may not have been nominated for an Oscar this year, but was an executive producer for the Best Picture winner Green Book. The actress won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2012 for her role in The Help and was nominated in 2017 and 2018 for Hidden Figures and The Shape of Water, respectively.
