The Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony-winning singer jokes that his appearance on The Voice may earn him the title of PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive
John Legend earned GOAT status when he entered the EGOT club last year, but he’s looking to expand his achievements and has a pretty good feeling his stint on The Voice will give him a push in the right direction.
The Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony-winning singer made his coaching debut on the hit singing competition’s Season 16 premiere on Monday night. While Legend may have a resume that intimidates fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, there’s one accomplishment missing that two of the other coaches possess.
“I realize I’m the only man up here that hasn’t won Sexiest Man Alive,” Legend, 40, said to PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive winners Levine (2013) and Shelton (2017). “I feel like if I’m on The Voice, that means I’m gonna get it.”
“That’s the EGOTSMA,” Levine, 39, quips.
Confidentially utilizing the show’s newest “block” feature to hinder Legend from adding a singer to his team on two separate occasions, the coaches became bashful with excuses when it came time to admit who pushed the button.
“John is a threat,” Levine said from his chair. “We are all scared of John.”

Clarkson, in turn, urged Legend to take it as a “compliment.”
“@JohnLegend, I’m sorry. But take the block as a compliment! I’m threatened by the #EGOT reality #VoicePremiere,” Clarkson, 36, wrote on Twitter.
Shelton, 42, couldn’t help but to feel sympathy Legend, who wasn’t able to fully live in the glory of his first day.

“I can’t believe someone would do that to @johnlegend on his 1st blind audition. People really don’t know how to welcome the new guy.. just rude,” Blake wrote on Twitter about Legend’s no-so-warm welcome.

Though much has been made about EGOT-winner Legend joining The Voice as a coach, Shelton previously told PEOPLE exclusively he’s not threatened in the least.
“I don’t know how deadly John is as a coach. I can only tell you that I have absolutely no faith in his ability to win this show,” says the country star, 42, who has won the show six times with his artists. “Not as long as I’m on, you know what I’m saying? I wanna beat him.”

Although Legend is the only one with EGOT status, Levine and Shelton say they’re just fine with that.
“That’s so much better. Are you kidding me? I don’t want a Tony,” jokes Levine. Agrees Shelton: “I don’t want to go to one of those shows to get one of those things. The parking’s horrible, the backstage is cramped, you can’t get a drink. It’s much more convenient to just go for Sexiest Man Alive.”
