GURUGRAM: Three persons were arrested on Monday six years after they allegedly murdered a doctor in Sohna.
The police said it is a case of contract killing where Dharmbeer, a former sarpanch of Ahir Majra village in Sonepat, had hired the three men to gun down Maha Singh, a resident of Manuwas village. The sarpanch, who is currently on the run, was allegedly in a relationship with Singh’s wife.
ACP (crime) Shamsher Singh Dahiya said that the incident took place on August 7, 2012 at a chowk in Silani village. When the doctor was returning home from his clinic, the three armed assailants stopped him and gunned him down. The doctor had died on the spot.
While an FIR was registered on the same day, the investigation of the case was assigned to the crime branch (Sohna) a few days back.
On February 20, crime branch inspector Satender Rawal arrested Rizwan, one of the suspects. The police took the man for four days’ remand and during interrogation he confessed to the crime. He claimed that the sarpanch had paid him Rs 25 lakh to carry out the murder of Maha Singh.
On Monday, the police arrested the other accused - Vikram, a resident of Kheri Gujjar and Jaydeep, a resident of Samaspur Gamda village, said ACP Dahiya.
While Rizwan has been sent to judicial custody, the police have taken Vikram and Jaydeep on five days’ police remand.
