GHAZIABAD: The apartment owner association (AOA) president and another resident of Amrapali Village, a highrise in Indirapuram, were booked for allegedly killing a dog and chasing two other dogs outside the society.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Deepak Kumar, AOA president of Amrapali Village and Swaroop Bhattacharya, a resident. “The FIR has been lodged after the complaint was made by the Ghaziabad branch of People For Animal (PFA) ,” police said.

Sumedha Vinod, president of PFA in Ghaziabad, told TOI that on Sunday she received a called from the society resident informing her that the accused had beaten up three stray dogs to chase them out of the society. “I have the CCTV footage in which the accused residents and security guards are beating the dogs with sticks. One of the dogs died in the process and the other two were driven out of the society in a tempo. This is against the Supreme Court order regarding stray dogs,” she alleged. On the other hand, the accused denied these charges. “Residents and the AOA never relocate or killed any dogs,” said Deepak Kumar who claimed that he was getting a haircut at the time of the alleged incident.

“Over 25 stray dogs are living in the society along with the residents. Every week over 3-4 cases of dog bites are reported. Four days ago, two stray dogs attacked a child and a senior citizen,” Kumar stated.

Shlok Kumar, SP city of Ghaziabad said that on the basis of the complaint by PFA members, police lodged an FIR against the two persons at the Indirapuram police station under Section of 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc., of any value or any animal of the value of fifty rupees) pf the IPC. “Police are starting the investigation and action will be taken on the basis of evidence,” SP said.
